Your laptop’s RAM (memory) is critical for performance and stability. Faulty or insufficient RAM can cause:
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors
Random application crashes
Dictation lag or dropped words in Dragon, Eclipse, ProCAT, or Case CATalyst
Corrupted files or failed system boots
Testing RAM helps confirm whether issues are hardware‑related or caused by software.
Watch for these signs:
Frequent BSODs with varying error codes
Programs closing unexpectedly
Files becoming corrupted without warning
System restarting or freezing randomly
Dictation software stuttering or missing words despite a clean system
Press Windows Key + R.
Type mdsched.exe and press Enter.
Choose Restart now and check for problems.
The test will run during reboot.
Results will appear after Windows restarts.
No errors found: RAM is likely fine.
Errors detected: RAM may be faulty and should be checked further.
For a more thorough test:
Download MemTest86 from its official site.
Create a bootable USB drive with the tool.
Restart your laptop and boot from the USB.
Allow the test to run several passes (this may take hours).
If errors appear, one or more RAM modules are failing.
Reseat RAM modules: Power down, remove, and reinsert sticks to ensure proper contact.
Test one stick at a time: Helps isolate which module is faulty.
Clean contacts: Use compressed air to remove dust or debris.
Replace in matched pairs: For dual‑channel setups, mismatched RAM can cause instability.
Voice recognition software is memory‑intensive. We recommend a minimum of 32 GB RAM for smooth performance.
Background apps (like browsers or Teams) can mimic RAM issues. Testing ensures hardware is not the cause before troubleshooting software.

Errors persist after reseating RAM
Multiple sticks fail tests
You are uncomfortable opening your laptop
