M-Tech systems with both Intel and NVIDIA graphics can operate in two different GPU modes: Hybrid Mode and NVIDIA-Only Mode. Each mode affects performance, external monitor behavior, battery life, and system stability. This guide explains the differences and helps you choose the best mode for your workflow.
Hybrid Mode uses both the Intel GPU and the NVIDIA GPU. The Intel GPU handles most display output, while the NVIDIA GPU activates only when needed for heavier tasks.
NVIDIA-Only Mode disables the Intel GPU and routes all display output directly through the NVIDIA GPU. This mode provides maximum stability and performance.
For Dragon, Speechmatics, and CAT software, we strongly recommend NVIDIA-Only Mode. This mode provides:
Hybrid Mode is acceptable for travel or battery-focused use, but not ideal for professional dictation or multi-monitor setups.
GPU mode switching is handled through the system firmware (BIOS) or through M-Tech’s configuration tools, depending on your model. If you are unsure how to switch modes, contact M-Tech for guidance.
If you are in the wrong mode for your workflow, you may notice:
Switching to NVIDIA-Only Mode resolves most of these issues.
Hybrid Mode is for battery life. NVIDIA-Only Mode is for performance and stability.
For court reporters, voice writers, and anyone using Dragon or Speechmatics, NVIDIA-Only Mode is the recommended choice.
