Before Your Optimization Session

Step 1: Activate Windows

•  Find the product key sticker under your laptop.

• Gently scratch with a fingernail (avoid using tools).

• Enter the code when prompted.

 Step 2: Unlink OneDrive (Critical!)

Do not uninstall OneDrive before unlinking.

How to unlink:

1. Click the OneDrive cloud icon near the clock.

2. Log in once with your Microsoft account.

3. Deselect folders you don't want synced  click Next.

4. Close the "Getting to Know OneDrive” window.

5. Reopen OneDrive  Settings, Unlink this PC.

6. Confirm the unlink message.

Once unlinked, you may install programs and updates. Do not uninstall until after unlinking.

 Step 3: Install Essential Programs

• Install only what you need for school/work.

• Students: check with your instructor first.

• Avoid unnecessary apps until after optimization.

 Step 4: Run Updates

• Run Windows Update until fully current.

• Update installed programs.

 Step 5: Keep Your System Clean

• Limit browsing to essential school/work tasks until after optimization.

• This ensures your backup is free of malware or clutter.

 Step 6: DVD Burner for Recovery

• Use a DVD burner, not a CD burner.

• Choose discs compatible with your drive (+R or â€"R).

• This allows the creation of a Linux boot disc for recovery.
